Coffee Project in Tanzania
Continuation and Expansion of SHAMBA Program
Abt Associates is providing managerial and financial support to TechnoServe Tanzania for the continuation and strengthening of their successful Southern Highlands Agricultural Marketing and Business Acceleration (SHAMBA) project in the coffee sector. Under the SHAMBA Program, TechnoServe effectively launched KILICAFE, a coffee farmer association, as one of Tanzania’s most visible and successful farmer-owned enterprises. The principal objectives of the RAISE+ program are to provide technical assistance to KILICAFE and its members representing over 10,000 small holder coffee farmers.
This work is expected to contribute to the improvement in the post harvest processing with the implementation of central pulperies and services, increased sale of specialty coffee, and strive to diversify crop base and replicate the success of the project.
