It is based on some sobering facts:
- At the dawn of a new millennium, there are still 1.2 billion men and women living on less than $1 per day, and nearly 3 billion people living on less than $2 per day.
- Despite the best efforts of the international donor community and development agencies over the past four decades, the average person in the developing world today is, at best, only moderately better off than he or she was in 1960.
At TechnoServe we are working to change this discouraging picture. Our goal is to provide hardworking men and women in developing countries with the tools and the means to participate in and benefit from the global economy. We are doing this by helping entrepreneurs in Africa and Latin America to build businesses that will create real economic growth.
By listening to the marketplace, we uncover new opportunities for entrepreneurs to satisfy unmet consumer needs. We then help entrepreneurs to create solid businesses that produce quality products for local, regional and international markets. These businesses provide jobs and income that enable people to lift themselves out of poverty.
